The Alleghany Cruisers hosted the 7th Annual Back the Blue Scholarship Car Show this Saturday. We have to admit, the weather was definitely less than ideal for a car show. We have really had a lot of bad luck with rain this year. That said, we must say we are very pleased with the way the event turned out. Our club was upbeat and optimistic going into this event. The Friday evening Back the Blue Eve concert featuring the Fender Benders had been an outstanding success with a large crowd on hand. The mood carried over into Saturday as the rain did little to dampen the spirts of those that attended. A total of 48 show vehicles participated in the event, which is a bit less than half what we normally draw, but again, weather was the big factor. Those that did come out to support our event however did seem to have a very good time. The atmosphere was amazing all day long, despite the incessant rain. There are so many people to thank. First of all, we want to thank all of our amazing sponsors. Without you this event would not be possible. The Alleghany Cruisers are honored and humbled by the amount of support that we receive from businesses in our community and abroad. We would also like to thank the Alleghany Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia State Police, the Covington City Police Department, and the Clifton Forge Town Police Department for participating in our event. We want to thank Love All BBQ, Cousins Maine Lobster, JKK Concessions, and Flurries Inc for providing amazing food service. Despite the rain all of our food vendors seemed to have a very good day. We would also like to thank each of our merchandise vendors that participated in todays show. We would also like to thank The Alleghany Journal, the Virginian Review, WDBJ 7, The Recorder, and Highlands Media Group for your excellent media coverage of our event. We also want to give a special thanks to Allen Dressler, Lisa Worley, and everyone with the City of Covington for everything that you do. The Jackson River Sports Complex is without a doubt the best venue for a car event in the Alleghany Highlands, and one of the best in the region. Of course we want to thank each of our entrants, you braved rainy conditions today and brought your vehicles out for everyone to enjoy, we cannot tell you how much we appreciate it. We also want to thank Mountain Rush and Driven Designs for your willingness to provide activities for the kids, unfortunately the weather interfered with this also. We want to thank Jeff Dudley, Jeff Craft, Bink Jenkins, Mercer Johnson, and Frankie Alfred for pulling off what you did Saturday evening for the Back the Blue Bash. Many of you know that Rock Bottom Bridge was scheduled to play, but mechanical issues with their vehicle prevented them from arriving. On short notice, RBB lead singer Jeff Craft was able to pull together the Grab Bag Band so that the show could go on. And go on it did, it was easily one of the most entertaining shows ever presented at the Jackson River Sports Complex. The good-sized crowd on hand was treated to an amazing show. Lastly, we would like to thank everyone that attended our event today. Your support is appreciated beyond what you will ever know. We also want to congratulate all of our award and raffle winners. I have often said what makes a great event is atmosphere, and this one had an amazing one. Even with the less-than-ideal weather, everyone had a great time. Which at the end of the day is the main thing that matters. Lastly, I want to recognize the members of the Alleghany Cruisers. I have been involved with car events for many years, and these folks are truly awesome people. They love their community, always promote a positive attitude, and never quit working hard to make these events the best they can be. It may have been a little wet, but it was a great day
